Hello there...

Hi, my name is Frances and welcome to my shop. If you're reading this then you're probably someone who loves magic, fantasy and strange forest creatures!

Like most artists I've been drawing my whole life, creating is something that is part of me. I get my inspirations from the natural world and consuming the odd fantasy book.

I live on a Narrowboat with my husband and our furry child and it's from here I started from small art business.

I enjoy creating magical and whimsical art that reflects my love of fantasy and fairy tales.

Work in Progress

Pastel, Watercolour & Linocut

Although pastel is my chosen medium, I'm always open to explore and try different artwork. I love watercolour and pen illustrations because I like the unpredictability that comes from watercolour. My favourite technique is to sprinkle salt over wet paint, as it dries you get beautiful 'cauliflower' patterns in the paint. (image bottom right).

When I was younger I started getting commissions from family and friends for pet portraits. I still do the odd one on request, (main image). Most portraits can take me a few weeks to complete, it can be a bit sad to see them go after staring at photos of them for so long.

A couple of years ago I completed a 4 week linocut course with a local print maker. I have always loved black and white printed artwork I think because it feels vintage. The act of physically carving, inking and printing is very tactful, there's a process you must complete to get to your final product.

The Story Continues

It's a bit of a messy process, I find myself hoovering up bits of lino for days. I've been eager to print some designs and my idea is to print onto fabric.

I slight problem I'm facing currently is trying to get a clean, even print. I either need to get or use a press (a device that firmly squashes the image onto said material) or use a softer type of lino. I have some blank tote bags that are waiting to be printed but alas I must find a solution to this troublesome predicament.

Either way I'm pleased to being adding a new art form to my catalogue.

So far I've been officially running my business for over a year. I've had to learn a lot from website building, graphic design and sourcing products. The challenges I face is being seen, I'm not much of a social person anyway so getting use to sharing social media and vlogging is always an uphill struggle.

Part of creating is finding your own path that you enjoy to walk. In an ever fasted paced world I keep looping back around, to work in a way that I want not what the algorithm says.

So moving forward I'm going to find my path, create products that I like and work at a slower pace. (not that I was working fast in the first place! lol)

One big goal for me is to be able to exhibit, I have a lot of ideas floating around in the old noggin, so if want to see them and follow along, I have a newsletter below, Instagram and YouTube.
