The journey into starting a small business.

Making that first step is hard, there is often so much to learn and get your head around that starting a new business can be scary.

After spending many years dreaming and imagining having my own art business I decided to make that leap in September 2023. I can't tell you the many hours I've racked up doing what I call research into manufactures, websites, software, packaging, editing, social media, etc, and it feels like I still don't know anything. I would say a good chunk of my time is spent just on learning how to do x,z,y or how best to turn this particular artwork into a sellable product. I'll admit it can feel frustrating, all I want to do is make art but I have to sit down at the computer and figure out what the hell an SEO is. But behind all my complaining and frustrations I'm gaining skills and knowledge.

With the advancement of social media it has never been easier to show your work to people all over the world. With that said building an audience takes time. It's an area that I'm most struggling with, I think sharing things doesn't come naturally to me and I have a tendency to live in my own head, a dreamer as my mum would say. I'm working on it, slowly, I just need a little confidence in myself that I can do things. Rome wasn't built in a day...

My focus right now is to keep making art and share it, get more active on social media and just continue to make small steps, even if that path looks wobbly as long as I keep going in the right direction I can do this. xx
